Troy police: Teen, 14, crashes stolen dump truck on I-75

Troy — A 14-year-old boy who escaped from a youth facility in Pontiac was arrested by police after he stole a dump truck and rolled it on a southbound ramp on Interstate 75.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night when an officer saw the truck heading off the ramp at a high rate of speed near Rochester Road, according to Troy police.

The truck rolled over and the teenager ran off across Rochester Road where he was captured in a weedy field.

The unidentified teen told police he had escaped from the Children’s Village in Pontiac and was trying to get to Detroit.

After his arrest, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a minor injury. He was then returned to Children’s Village by police.

When contacted by Troy police, the owner of the truck said he was unaware that it had been stolen. The 14-year-old will faces charges in Oakland County Probate Court for possession of a stolen vehicle.
