One dead in predawn wreck on I-75 in northwest Atlanta

Authorities were investigating two fatal wrecks on metro Atlanta interstates early Friday, one that was apparently caused by racing.

That wreck happened around midnight on I-20 westbound near Salem Road in Rockdale County.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said the initial indication is that a Honda Accord was racing another vehicle when the Honda driver lost control and hit a guardrail.

The Honda then traveled back into the westbound lanes, and was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck, Wright said.

Two passengers in the Honda were killed, and the driver was injured. Two men in the pickup truck were also injured.

“The other driver believed to be involved with racing the Honda has been identified and will be interviewed during the follow-up investigation,” Wright said.

A second wreck happened in the same area when a vehicle slowed for the first crash and was rear-ended by another vehicle, Wright said.

Meanwhile, police were investigating a fatal predawn wreck on a northwest Atlanta interstate ramp.

Atlanta police Capt. Tim Peek told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the motorist was northbound on I-75 at the Moores Mill Road exit shortly before 4 a.m. when “it appears that the vehicle entered the ramp, which is a sharp ramp, but continued straight into

Trucker who crashed died of heart issue – jacksonprogress

A truck driver who crashed into the guardrail on Interstate 75 last week and was dead with authorities arrived died from a heart condition, the Butts County coroner said Monday.

Coroner Ralph Wilson said that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s medical examiner had determined Ronald Alonzo Williams died of a heart-related issue.

Williams, 39, was driving a tractor trailer southbound on I-75 Wednesday night when the vehicle left the road and struck the guardrail near milepost 201, a Georgia State Patrol spokesman said. The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m.

Williams, of Yatesville, was dead when emergency workers arrived, authorities said, but the crash was not thought to have been the cause of death.

Wilson said the driver had picked up a load of what was said to be frozen foods at a distribution center in McDonough and was bound for Florida.
