A major wreck on I-285 east in Sandy Springs caused an unknown number of injuries and fatalities and has left many lanes blocked, ajc.com is reporting.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has advised drivers to find alternate routes. The investigation into the accident could block traffic until around 9 p.m., according to ajc.com.

The crash affected traffic in both directions of I-285, including the north and southbound I-75 ramps to I-285 east, where all six lanes were blocked at one point until one lane was reopened to relieve some of the congestion, ajc.com reported. Some of the traffic was being diverted onto Cobb Parkway and Powers Ferry Road.
