A single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning resulted in one fatality.

Just before 8:30 a.m. a champagne-colored Mercedes SL500 traveling north on Interstate 75 at mile marker 296 in the left lane went into the median, striking a guardrail, Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Tracey Watson said.

“After impact the Mercedes rotated clockwise traveling across the left, middle and right lanes. The vehicle then traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway, striking a tree,” Watson said.

Black markings were visible across the interstate for some distance before tire marks led off the roadway near the Cass-White Road exit, down the embankment and into the woodline. The Mercedes came to rest on the edge of a stream.

The crash occurred within site of exit 296 at Cass-White Road. The black male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released; Watson said the next of kin has not been notified yet.
