Lehigh man seriously injured in I-75 crash

A Lehigh Acres man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 75 Wednesday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the two vehicles were traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 114 when a Ford Escape driven by Louis Barahona, 57, of Lehigh Acres, slowed as traffic ahead was slowing. The second car, a Toyota Solara driven by Kurtis Beach, 34, of Cape Coral, failed to slow in time to avoid a collision, according to troopers.

Beach steered his car into the rear right of Barahona’s vehicle, according to reports. After the impact, Beach’s car traveled across the other lanes of I-75 and entered the east shoulder, according to reports. Barahona’s car entered the median, overturning and coming to rest in an upright position in the median.

Barahona was taken by Collier Med-Flight to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was in serious condition, reports said. Beach was cited for careless driving, according to reports.
