Iowa couple dies in I-75 accident south of Perry

An Iowa couple died Sunday evening in an accident on Interstate 75 about 10 miles south of Perry.

Kenneth Behrens, 64, and his wife, Margaret Behrens, 65, were believed to be traveling to the Outback Bowl in Tampa, when they were rear-ended in the southbound lanes near mile marker 125 in Houston County, said Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Tre Howard.

The Behrens’ Ford Escape was hit from behind by a Kia Forte driven by an Ohio man, whose identity has not been released, Howard said.

The impact caused the Escape to overturn into the guardrail, killing the couple from Wilton, Iowa.

The Kia driver was not hurt in the accident, which is being investigated by the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
