Ice, slick roads cause morning crashes

As ice covered area roadways there were many slide-offs and collisions around the Miami Valley Sunday morning.

Beginning around 5:30 a.m., police officers out on roadways began to report slick conditions and call for area road crews to salt roadways, according to dispatch records.

At 7 a.m., a Dayton police officer that was blocking traffic in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 due to a crash near Stanley Avenue was hit by an SUV that hit a patch of ice on the roadway and lost control.

The officer’s cruiser was damaged in the collision, but no one was injured, police said.
