A 35-year-old Gibsonton woman was killed in a two-car crash on I-75 in southern Hillsborough County on Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to troopers, Cheryl Westbrook was driving north in the left-center lane of the highway north of Gibsonton Drive around 10:35 p.m. A 1999 Lexus sedan in front of her attempted to change lanes into Westbrook’s lane, and the vehicles collided side-by-side.
Both vehicles rebounded in a northeast direction onto the east shoulder of the roadway. Westbrook’s 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed into an FDOT sign and overturned, troopers said.
Westbrook died at the scene, troopers said. The driver of the other vehicle, 38-year-old Candelaria Perez of Riverview, was transported to Brandon Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Charges against Candelaria are pending, troopers said.
