Crash, fuel spill close I-75 in Alachua County for several hours

A tractor-trailer driven by Stanislaw Turczyn, 66, of Chicago was in the center lane at around 1:20 a.m. naer mile marker 378 when it veered into the right lane and struck the rear of a Ford F-250 pickup driven by Thomas Keith Pettus, 44, of Lakeland.

The pickup began to spin counter-clockwise and the passenger side hit a trailer attached to an Ford F-350 pickup driven by Christopher Steven Coleman, 25, of Waverly.

As the F-250 continued to rotate, the semi then hit the trailer before crossing over the center and left lanes onto the highway median, the report said. It stopped partly in the median and in the emergency lane.

The F-250 blocked the center and left lane while the F-350 stopped on the shoulder of the highway.

All three southbound lanes were closed for several hours as responders cleared the wreckage and about 300 gallons of diesel from the semi. Traffic was detoured onto Exit 382 (Williston Road) to U.S. 441 while the interstate was closed.

Turczyn was uninjured and was cited for careless driving; Pettus received minor injuries and was treated at UF Health Shands Hospital; Coleman and his passenger Jose Manuel Justino of Dundee were uninjured, while passenger Pedro Rosario Fernandez of Haines City was treated at Shands for minor injuries.
