Crash closes part of I-75 in SW Ohio for 8 hours

CINCINNATI (AP) — Interstate 75 southbound into Cincinnati has reopened after a fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers caused an eight-hour shutdown.

The accident occurred after 4 a.m. Wednesday. Police were still investigating what caused the crash, which caused flames to shoot into the predawn sky. The fire was fed by spilled diesel fuel.

Authorities say at least two people were injured in the accident. No information was available immediately on their conditions, but they weren’t believed to have life-threatening injuries.

The accident was near the east-west Interstate 74. Southbound traffic was diverted to other routes during the Wednesday morning commute as authorities cleaned up the accident scene and arranged to have the tractor-trailers unloaded and moved.

Work to clean up I-75 crash scene continues

A major highway into downtown Cincinnati was closed for nearly eight hours after a truck crash and fire.

The fire, fed by diesel fuel and the burning plastic of the semi’s cab. lit up the sky early Wednesday morning.

One truck involved in the crash overturned and began burning. The other truck had the cab sheared from the chassis and over the guardrail.

Both drivers, Louis Hansen, 22, and Kwame Boadu, 61, survived and their injuries were called non-life threatening.

Andre Eddings, a salesman for Woody Sander Ford, said the back-up cost him about 30 minutes on his way to work. He avoided I-75, but like a lot of other people, he got tangled up in traffic on a number of side streets.

“Down Galbraith to Winton Road, and Winton Road was backed up, so I turned around, went all the way down Galbraith to Vine Street, got on Vine Street – that was backed up,” Eddings said.

Northbound drivers were also affected, as a lot of people coming through slowed down to look over the wall at first the fire, then the cleanup going on.

All lanes finally reopened
