One airlifted after motorcycle crash closes part of I-75

One person was transported to an Atlanta hospital following a Thursday afternoon crash.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a motorcycle towing a trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 at the Etowah River just after 12:30 p.m. No information on the cause of the one-vehicle crash was available. Portions of the interstate was closed for about 1 1/2 hours.

The operator of the motorcycle was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Emerson Police Department worked the crash with GSP assisting in the reconstruction.

According to Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley, the accident was caused by wind sheer. When a tractor-trailer passed the motorcycle, Bradley said, the turbulence created by the tractor-trailer caused the motorcyle’s trailer to shift and the rider lost control of the motorcycle.

Car break-ins reported blocks apart

Just weeks after Cartersville police warned residents of car break-ins, two more vehicles have been hit within blocks of each other.

According to the reports, a 2006 Chevy Tahoe at a Luckie Street address was targeted between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The owner said the window was down and the doors locked when a thief took a $350 leaf blower from the vehicle. Nothing else was reported missing.

Area Funeral Director Dies in I-75 Crash in Emerson

An Interstate 75 crash in Emerson on Thursday claimed the life of a Paulding County funeral director.

Jeff Eberhart, 58, was the manager, a licensed funeral director and an embalmer at Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home in nearby Dallas. Gene Penney, who works at the funeral home as an assistant, said Eberhart died about 4 p.m.

His Harley-Davidson, which was pulling a trailer, was the only vehicle involved in the 1 p.m. crash just outside Cartersville in Bartow County, Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley told Patch.

He said a tractor-trailer also traveling north on I-75 apparently passed Eberhart’s motorcycle, and the resulting wind sheer caused the motorcycle to sway, according to witnesses. Authorities believe Eberhart lost control of the motorcycle as a result.

“That’s just speculation, but with a motorcycle, the margin of error is much smaller than with a car,” Bradley said, adding the motorcycle, which was traveling about 65 mph, overturned several times, crushing its driver.

Eberhart was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was pronounced deceased.

Bradley called it an “unfortunate accident” and said no other vehicles were at fault, although the tractor-trailer that passed Eberhart may have been traveling

Bradley said investigators believe no other vehicles were at fault, although the tractor-trailer that passed Eberhart may have been traveling a few mph more than the speed limit. Police don’t expect to lodge charges in connection with the crash.

Woman Accused In Ga. Bank Robbery Identified

ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – Police have identified a woman accused of robbing a bank, leading police on a high speed chase and flipping her car on an Atlanta interstate as 39-year-old Ancely Faye Green.

Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman says Green, of Dallas, walked into a SunTrust Bank branch Monday morning and handed a teller a note demanding money and saying she had a bomb.

Bowman says Green fled with an undisclosed amount of money and later fled from police during an attempted traffic stop. Authorities say a chase along Interstate 75 reached 120 mph and ended when Green’s vehicle crashed and overturned.

Authorities determined the woman wasn’t carrying any explosives and took her into custody. She’s been charged with armed robbery and it’s unclear if she has an attorney.

Authorities in Cobb County have identified a woman accused of robbing a bank, leading police on a high-speed chase and flipping her car on Interstate 75 in metro Atlanta on Monday.

Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman said Ancely Faye Green, 39, of Dallas, walked into a SunTrust Bank branch on Mars Hill Road in Acworth just before 11 a.m. Monday morning and handed a teller a note demanding money and saying she had a bomb. Acworth is about 30 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Green fled with an undisclosed amount of money and later ran from police during an attempted traffic stop, Bowman said. The suspect led police on a chase along I-75 that reached 120 mph and ended when the car she was driving crashed and overturned, police said.

“She wrecked on her own accord. There was no assisting, no pit maneuver, GSP was at a safe distance and she just lost control of the vehicle simply,” Bowman told WGCL-TV.

Green crashed her car in the southbound lanes of I-75 near an exit ramp leading to Mount Paran Road, Bowman said. Authorities determined the woman wasn’t carrying any explosives and took her into custody.

Chase of bank robbery suspect leads to crash, closes I 75

A woman believed to a have robbed a northern Cobb County bank led police on a 25-mile chase that reached up to 120 mph late Monday morning before she crashed and flipped her vehicle, bringing traffic to a standstill on a busy stretch of interstate.

The woman, identified Monday as Ancily Faye Green, 39, of Dallas, told employees at the SunTrust bank on Mars Hill Road that she had explosives, according to Cobb County police. Investigators took that threat seriously and temporarily closed all lanes of I-75 to search her vehicle, but didn’t find explosives. Green was taken into police custody, charged with armed robbery and booked into the Cobb jail Monday afternoon.

For about an hour and a half, all lanes of I-75 were closed at Mount Paran Road, backing up traffic in both directions in Fulton and Cobb counties, according to police.

The interstate shut down created a headache for drivers heading to or from downtown Atlanta. Side streets quickly clogged up, too, as those who were able to exit the interstate looked for alternate routes.

Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said the incident started just before 11 a.m. with the robbery of the SunTrust Bank in the 1700 block of

There was a big jam on Interstate 75 on  Monday  after a bank robbery suspect fled the scene at Mars Hill Rd Bank and started a high-speed chase that came to an end on Interstate 75 south at Mount Paran Road just south of the Cobb County line. The interstate was closed or prtially closed for more than two hours for the accident.

The whole thing started just before 11 a.m. Monday, when a black, heavy set woman went inside the SunTrust bank location at the corner of Stilesboro and Mars Hill roads in Acworth and passed a note to a bank teller indicated that she had some sort of explosive device.

Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police said the woman, whose name is not being released at this time, took an unknown amount of cash and fled.
